[vc_row disable_element=”yes” css=”.vc_custom_1574283403058{margin-bottom: 5px !important;}”]On Sunday, December 17, 2017, a Centra Member found an ATM skimmer on the ATM at 2165 Jonathan Moore Pike in Columbus. We are reviewing security footage and collecting information to determine what, if any, impact this skimmer may have to our Members.

Centra employees also discovered a glue-like substance on the card reader at our ATM located at 11700 North U.S. 31, in Edinburgh. It’s not clear if this ATM had a skimmer installed, but we have identified Members who may have been impacted just in case, and will take action if we suspect any fraudulent activity on their accounts.[vc_row disable_element=”yes”]

See the What To Watch For section below, and report anything out of the ordinary to us at 800-232-3642.

[vc_column_text css=”.vc_custom_1513611762534{margin-top: -10px !important;}”]We’re committed to providing the safest and most secure banking for our Members, so our primary focus now will be to quickly help impacted Members secure their accounts and recover any losses. We will also be working closely with law enforcement to identify those responsible for the skimmers. Additional security procedures have been put in place to monitor Centra ATMs and prevent further inconvenience to members.

Centra President and CEO, Rick Silvers, takes this issue very seriously. “There’s no good time for this to happen, but for it to happen during the holiday season makes it even more distressing. We’re doing everything we can to put any losses back in our Member’s pockets as quickly as possible,” Silvers said.[vc_row css=”.vc_custom_1513181237857{margin-bottom: 30px !important;}”][vc_separator][vc_row disable_element=”yes”][vc_cta h2=”” txt_align=”center” style=”flat” color=”sky” add_icon=”top” i_icon_fontawesome=”fa fa-exclamation” i_color=”sky” i_background_style=”rounded” i_background_color=”white” css_animation=”none” i_on_border=”true” css=”.vc_custom_1513181178245{margin-top: 0px !important;}”]

ATM Skimmers

What to Watch For:

Fake component installed on ATM

Fake ATM component installed

Fake component hiding electronics

Fake ATM component removed

ATM skimmer electronics

Fake ATM component internals

  • Our ATMs are very solid and secure, there shouldn’t be any loose or wobbly covers or components.
  • Scammers will sometimes install a fake component with a camera above the PIN pad to capture PIN numbers.
  • To conceal their identity, sometimes scammers will cover the built-in ATM camera.
  • Similar to the images above, a fake component will likely be a similar color as the ATM and may even display logos for the financial institution or ATM servicing company.

Always Remember:

If any component looks out of place, try to move it back and forth. If fraud is suspected, contact the ATM owner immediately. For Centra ATMs, call 800-232-3642.

Internal card skimmer device

  • Check for damage and/or white glue-like residue on the card reader slot. This can indicate a criminal has attempted to insert a skimmer into the card reader slot.
  • If a card reader feels loose, try to move it back and forth. If it appears the reader is not secured to the machine, it may be a skimmer inserted over the top of the reader.
  • If you have a tough time inserting, moving, or swiping your card, there may be an internal skimmer inserted into the card reader.
